What do the reports costs?

Our research is sold in the form of an annual site license that provides the client with four consecutive quarterly editions of a report. A site license for up to five users is US $9,970, and a license for up to 50 users is US $10,499. Each quarter the research will be emailed to designated users in the form of a PDF file with selected data also provided in an Excel-compatible spreadsheet.

Each product (PC Processors or PC Graphics) is licensed separately.

Please note that in rare cases we regret that we may be unable to provide research due to legal, regulatory or tax concerns, or where the costs of managing associated risks are excessive.

How quickly can I get a report?

In most cases the most recent edition of the reports ordered can be delivered within hours -- and often minutes -- of receipt of a qualified order. Should you have immediate needs for our research reports, please contact us by phone.

During the normal distribution cycle, our reports generally make it to clients within minutes to four hours from when we tell our server to mail them, depending on the client's email system, virus scanning, etc. Should email fail to get the report to a client, we can pre-arrange web-based delivery.

Can you send me a sample report?

We rarely provide sample reports. On occasion when the request is part of the payment justification process in obtaining a purchase order, we may at our discretion provide samples provided the client agrees to the same license the current reports have results.

Please note that "cold calls" and simple requests via email without evidence of intent to order, particularly by individuals and companies far outside of our normal client base are are unlikely to produce results and often will simply go unanswered.

The sample you sent me is old, can you send me something more fresh?

The sample you sent me is the same one you sent me last year, can you send me one more recent?

Please note that in the few cases that we do send sample copies, the samples are from the same year and quarter. As the format and coverage areas of the reports is unchanging, this should be enough to evaluate them. Providing samples from different time periods creates an avenue to obtain free research. We cannot provide free research and remain in business, nor would this be fair to the many dedicated customers whose support we appreciate greatly.

Do I gain access to all previous editions of the reports?

We provide only the reports a license is purchased for. As a client, select limited requests for historical data may be fulfilled, depending on the type and amount of data needed. If there's a specific data set that is needed we suggest you discuss this with us prior to placing an order.

There's only one user for the information, can I get a discount from the 5-user license?

The license fee is the same for one to five users; the license is for up to five users, which includes single-user sites.

We've been told by clients that buy from many research firms that the per-user costs for our research is a small fraction of large, full-coverage firms and that this results in a very good value per research dollar.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment can be made by check or upon prior arrangement, by electronic funds transfer (EFT or ACH). Mercury Research will accept and invoice against qualified corporate purchase orders.

I'm a research broker/reseller and have a client that wants your report, what are your commissions?

Mercury Research does not sell through brokers or offer discounts or commissions to them. Some clients prefer to use third parties to handle processing and payments; any additional costs for such a service over and above the price of the site license are between that service and the client. In all cases, because our products are licensed, we need to send the reports to the end user directly.

I only need data on "X," which is just a portion of one report, can I buy just this data?

Our business has evolved to provide our full data set in the most cost effective manner possible, and generating sub-sets of the data is more work than providing the standard report so it's generally not cost effective to supply a small custom data set. On a case-by-case basis and only for existing customers that are supply chain participants, we may due unique data extraction or data processing if necessary as a fixed-fee consulting project.

I only need one report, not four. Can I buy just one quarter?

No. In the past, Mercury Research sold individual quarterly reports, however with market consolidation and changing cost structures we ceased to offer individual copies years ago as it is not cost effective for us to do so. We have found the support requirements are the same for single sales as for annual subscriptions. By necessity we now only do business with clients that can commit to supporting our research for the long term.

Early Results

We are frequently asked about gaining access to our research before it is issued, or clients wishing to have detailed conversations immediately prior to or during the period when the research is composed. The reports are issued to clients within hours of their completion. Calling for data ahead of publication won't result in any new information, and the interruption actually slows down the delivery of the report.

Can you send me the research results/market shares/forecast before the report is complete?

No.

Can I call to discuss what you're seeing in the market while you're writing the report or the week before?

No.

Someone told me they get the results early.

No one does, so they're either mistaken or lying. We advise to be particularly wary if someone makes this claim in the context of offering financial advice.

Can you send me free research?

I'm a student at --- University working on a project/research paper and need data, can you please send it to me?

I run the --- web site, and would like to post summaries of your reports. In exchange you will gain lots of exposure.

No. Unfortunately if we gave our research away we'd very quickly find ourselves overwhelmed with request for free information and be out of work is no time.

Mercury Research is a small research firm with no support staff, so even simple requests take time away from our paying customers. Most, if not all, requests for free research will go unanswered. As our products are focused on businesses in the industry who are already well aware of what we do, so additional exposure is not needed.

Can you add me to your press list to be notified of new research?

Can you send me summaries of your report results when they're released?

We do not maintain a press release list, nor do we issue regular releases on our research. Coverage that you do see is generally from a reporter calling us, or other reports taken from an initial story. We're happy to talk with the press, time permitting. We only share limited data, however, and this must be requested during work on the story.

I saw a summary table on the web with all of the last quarter's results, can you send this to me when it comes out?

Mercury Research never issues complete result summaries or tables of results to anyone but clients. What you saw was most probably a copyright infringement of data taken from one of our reports or extracted from one of our client's research documents without permission. Mercury Research will not validate that results taken from other sources are accurate or complete. We'd also like to point out that such infringements directly affect our business, and that such infringements have a personal impact.
